Cell to cell adhesion plays a critical role in physiology and pathology. For example, cell adhesion is central to normal development, wound healing, atherogenesis and cancer. Our lab seeks to unravel the complex physical and molecular mechanisms that govern cell adhesion and to develop novel adhesion based diagnostics and therapeutics. The latter effort involves advancing vascular targeted drug delivery, and the identification and characterization of small molecule inhibitors of adhesion. This work is conducted in collaboration with Drs. Monica Burdick, Kelly McCall, Leonard Kohn, Ramiro Malgor, Steve Bergmeier, Mark McMills, David Tees, and Frank Schwartz.
